Blueberry Picking

It's my family's favorite time of year - blueberry season! After my parents and I went blueberry picking for the first time a couple of years ago, they love going every year (or even multiple times). We've tried a couple of different blueberry farms on the west side of the state, but we always go back to our favorite, Reender's Farm. We picked around six buckets of blueberries that cost $60 - about 33 pounds of berries!

After washing all of the berries, we keep some in the fridge and put the rest in the freezer to use throughout the year. I absolutely love putting fresh or frozen berries in many different recipes! Especially since I'm kind of picky when I'm at the farm, I try to only pick the larger berries since this specific type of blueberry is sweeter the bigger they are. I love referencing GRKids for different seasons for fruit picking in my area, but here are a couple of my favorite blueberry spots in west Michigan:
- Reender's Blueberry Farm: Near Holland, they have U-pick berries, pre-picked, local jams, baked goods, and lots of parking!
- DeGrandChamp Farms: Similar to Reender's, but it's in South Haven!
- Blueberry Hill: A great place to stop if you're near Grand Haven. They only have u-pick berries, but it's only about $1.58 per pound!

Some of my favorite ways to enjoy blueberries (instead of by the handful), are in oatmeal, chia pudding, banana bread, muffins, salad, and of course smoothies!
