Secret Santa 2017

I was so excited to participate in Blogger Secret Santa this year as it was my first time. Thank you to Abigail and Cathleen for organizing everything, and my Secret Santa was Abigail! I always love finding new blogs to read, and there were so many other participants who create great content. I had Jasmin, and you can go on over to her blog to see what I got her! It was so much fun to find some gifts that I thought she'd like, as I'd see something small once in awhile along the way. We used the website Elfster, which made things very easy for shipping, buying, and getting to know who you had for Secret Santa. Be sure to see what everyone else got by clicking here!

Holiday Cookie Recipe Roundup

I've been on quite a baking kick recently, making way too many cookies, and also eating too many as well. Both of my parents have had work parties this week, and it was a great excuse to make some of my tried and true recipes along with some new ones! Here is a complete rundown of my favorite cookie recipes that I only exclusively make during this time of year. These are all very straightforward and easy to make, which is great if you're making double batches and a variety of cookies!

Leaving College + Moving to NYC

Seventeen year old Steph would think you were crazy if you told her that by senior year, she'd sorta-kinda have her life figured out. Okay, maybe not "figured out", but that she'd be ok with not knowing what's going to happen next year or even next month. I came into college not knowing what I wanted to major in, and once I figured that out, I just did my thing and tried to do my best in school while meeting new people and balancing school/work/social life.

Fall Favorites

It's hard to believe that we are already halfway through the semester, and that it actually started snowing outside (!!). These past couple of months have been very crazy, filled with interviews, spending time with friends, one too many group projects, and getting into a new routine. I've been loving a couple new things recently that I can't wait to share - and these have been staples in my day to day life.

How to Save Money on Food in College

Now that I'm into my fourth year of college, I feel like I've picked up a couple tips and tricks that have helped me cut down on spending money for food. I spent two years in the dorms with an unlimited meal plan, and this will be my second year cooking + grocery shopping for myself. I honestly feel old because I look forward to weekly ads and grocery shopping (lol). It's oddly relaxing and nice to plan ahead meals so I don't have to worry about it when I'm super busy during the week in class or at work.

Weekend in Nashville

Since I'm living in Georgia for the summer, I have been trying to travel and explore more of the south. My best friend Emily from Michigan goes to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, and of course I had to visit her for the weekend. It was about a 6.5 hour drive from where I'm currently living, but it was definitely worth it to explore such a beautiful city. She was my personal tour guide, and basically our schedule for those 48 hours were centered about when and where we were going to eat...there were just endless places to visit (and they were all so aesthetically pleasing). Here is everywhere we went:

Hillsboro Village

Dress Up : A very affordable boutique with your basic tops and dresses. It was very hard to resist.

Revv Boutique: A cute store on the pricier side. Love the color scheme and quality of everything!
Grilled Cheeserie Melt Shop: Please order the peanut butter chocolate milk shake when you come here.

Cancun Travel Diary

Last weekend, I traveled to Cancun for my cousin's bachelorette party, and it was my first ever international trip! We stayed at the Live Aqua resort, which was all inclusive, and all of those mojitos and tacos were definitely not good for my diet...but hopefully it was all balance out by the dancing we did at night. Those three days were spent eating, drinking, and laughing so much. My cousin's fiance even surprised her with a photographer on the last night and she took some amazing photos! I also made a vlog to document the weekend, and all of that editing it really makes me want to start a youtube channel (someday).

My Favorite Health and Fitness Youtubers

A couple of months ago I wrote a post all about body image, and since then have really been into going to the gym and eating healthy. This is the first time in a long time where I actually want to go to the gym and really love it - I even wake up before class to do so (what is happening to me??). I haven't loved exercise this much since high school where I was able to play tennis six days a week, and I think it mainly has to do with the fact that I will not do the same workout two times in a row. I'll go on youtube and find something new to try each time, focusing on a different muscle group each day, going for a run, or whatever my body feels like doing that day.

Cute Food Spots in Grand Rapids

field and fire cafe

What I really miss about Grand Rapids while I'm at college are all of the little coffee shops and restaurants that are all over the city and suburbs. Even though I have lived there my entire life, there always seems to be something new opening or new place to try that I've never been to before that my friends and I can visit. Thankfully, I was able to visit a couple different places over winter break, and seriously...I loved them all. It's hard enough to serve good food, but to serve good food AND to be aesthetically pleasing and cute is another accomplishment. Some of these places I've loved for years, and others I just went to for the first time!

Volunteering at the International Rescue Committee (Vlog)

Over winter break, I had the opportunity to drive down to Atlanta with other students from Michigan State and volunteer at the International Rescue Committee. It was a week long trip with eleven other students through Alternative Breaks, a student organization on campus. There were many other options for other trips based on different social issues, but this one especially caught my eye with the situation in Aleppo and it being a topic during political debate. What's really different is that all students sign up for trips based on the social issue and not location, so I had no idea where I would be going.
